To become certified as a DSFP, you don't have to necessarily possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in any field of study, but if you do, you can use it towards your five credit certification requirement. However, up to only three degrees and certifications can be submitted for credits. A minimum of two years work experience are required for certification.
If you are looking to become a DSFP Advisor then the first step would be obtaining all of the necessary CMSSA approved coursework requirements. Next, if you hold an official bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university, submitting your transcripts early to CMSSA will ensure that you are one to three credits closer in achieving the certification (out of 5). While having your transcript ready isn't mandatory for taking the exam, preparing in advance can make eligibility easier and hassle-free.
Just five years stand between you and your DSFP certification. Ensure that the clock is ticking by submitting your official transcript to DSFP right away, regardless of whether or not you have already completed a degree; it's the most efficient way to get one step closer to achieving this sought-after designation.
As of March 31st, 2023 CMSSA No longer needs official transcripts. Non-official transcripts are sufficient. For a transcript to be considered official by us, it must come directly from your school and not the student via any scanned copies, or documents.
An "accredited college or university" is one that has been institutionally accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was awarded . To confirm your school's accreditation, please visit the Department of Education's website.
International degrees may be applied to the bachelor's degree requirement if they receive equivalency from a third-party evaluation agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).
